What is this weird jelly stuff?

Hi everyone,

We have finally got our allotment and are very excited. We have no previous experience and are a little bit overwhelmed and confused right now Our visit to the site yesterday revealed few things we missed the first time. One of the surprises was this weird jelly-like substance next to the compost heap. What is it? Keep it or get rid of it (how?) ? Any advice welcome

Maybe is those water retention crystals that expand when wet? I think something like that is used by florists.

It's frog or toad spawn,get it in some water & wait for tadpoles, then froglets or toadlings, will help fight the fight against slugs as long as you don't use slug pellets. Lucky lucky you

I saw frog spawn before, and I think it didn't look anything like it... but I might be wrong! I'm sure my little daughter would love some froggies

I googled the water retaining crystals, and yes - it does look a bit like it.

I will try to nag one of the neighbours about it but if you have any other suggestions in the meantime I'll be much obliged!

Ok, so I can forget about the vision with hundreds tiny frogs marching through the plot - phew!

Next question is - what do I do with that water retaining gel? Mix it with soil? In what ratio? Or should I just get rid of it (and if so - how? local recycling centre?)
