Lettuce leaves bad?
« on: October 23, 2012, 19:20 »
Ok can anyone settle a argument between my husband and me?
Can chickens have lettuce?
I say yes in moderation as with all things.
The other half says it't bad for them!
If i let the Gals decide they eat everything, up to and including a mouse that happened to run across their path  ::)(they really are Raptors in feathers!)
Thanks :)

I give my 17 a whole lettuce between them every now and then and they are ok  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Most people with chickens that I know depend on their chickens to finish up overgrown/old lettuces, just don't overdo them per day.  Free range chickens depend on greens for their diets and lettuce is perfect. Cabbage, I find, tends to give them smellier eggs, but other veg like kale, chard, etc  are fine too.

I have been feeding cabbage to my lot for the last 3 or 4 months and I cannot say I have noticed any difference in taste or smell. I gave them lettuce every day up until the cabbage were ready.  :)
