peas - help needed with supporting them
« on: June 18, 2010, 14:35 »
Hi everyone
I have been caught out this year due to a really bad back and my peas are now up and growing away without any support. I have tried to put some twiggy sticks in between them but am afraid to do too much in case I snap them off.

I dont think the twigs will be tall enough so has anyone got any bright ideas for me that may help my poor peas?

There are only about 20 plants in total and they are in a raised bed. Also is it too late to plant some more?

Many thanks

MA.

A couple of canes with a few lengths of garden twine tied between them should do the job.

As for sowing some more I will let someone else answer; I've only ever grown them relatively early.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Not too late, but are running into the mildew risk period.

You may get it, you may not!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I've already got black fly on my runners, earywigs in my clematis, slugs and pigeons in my brassica's, blackspot on my roses, and caterpillars everywhere else.......I can really do with mildew - honest, I really can.

Thanks for letting me know the risks....much appreciated.

Got mildew twice.
