Hi John.

I've moved you across to the Grow Your Own forum. You can join the grown ups now you have your allotment !

I'd say the apple tree is of the fruiting type but beyond that can't help. :?
If you can take a close up of one of the ripe apples you might stand a better chance. :)

Enjoy all the hard work.

Re the apple type, I have no expertise so can't help - but if you really want to know, there are likely to be lots of apple fayres etc any time now where you might be able to take one along to be identified.  These normally happen in the second half of October.

I don't know whether RHS Garden Harlow Carr are doing anything along those lines this year, but you might find something happening more locally if you do a search on t'interweb.

Enjoy your lotty - do a bit at a time and remember to take photos of progress, so you can look back in a few months time with a real sense of satisfaction
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I've consulted the tome that is 'The Fruit Expert' and it looks a bit like 'Tydemans Late Orange' or 'Sunset' but could be another Cox's Orange Pippin cross.

Or it could be a variety not in my book of course  :)

Either way, i hope it tastes nice.  :D
