Apologies for the title I just wanted the alliteration.

I have a load of squashes I've grown from seed. All seeds from the same packets, germinated together then put into pots. Half I put in the polytunnel and half in the utility room. The photo shows what they look like now. The utility room plants have grown much bigger and are paler while the tunnel plants are small and darker.

My question is, are the polytunnel plants runts, or are the utility room plants leggy?

(All have been in the same size pots all along, I was halfway through repotting them all when I took the pic)

I'd say the poor little seedlings planted in the polytunnel are suffering from cold and will catch up whilst the ones in the utility room are suffering from lack of daylight.

No easy answer till you get the weather right - warmer and sunnier.

I think they all can grow into productive plants with proper care.

If someone asked me to choose half of them to grow on, I'd take the 5 small but sturdy polytunnel plants.

i would think the poltunnel has been very cold at night the indoor ones were warmer overnight all change this week though at last
