Feeding toms
« on: August 11, 2013, 22:54 »
I've nipped out all the growing tips on my cordons as I have 4/5 trusses (some really huge) and cut off lots of lower leaves to aid ripening.
Do I still need to feed?

Afternoon,

Some of my tomatoes have  6, maybe seven trusses (dare I say I think I may have an eight...sorry  :( ). I have pinched out all the side shoots and feed regularly but where there are so many trusses am I creating a problem for my Toms? They are cropping, but only small as one would assume with so many trusses. Am I able to cut some of the trusses back?

Sorry viettaclark for jumping in on your thread.....apologies.

The cherry toms do seem to get taller with many trusses, if yours are cherries, I wouldn't worry about it  ;)

I've been foliar feeding with mixture of biobizz fish mix and a seaweed extract on a weekly basis, and have been adding Plagron Bat Guano (high in P & K) on a weekly basis

eralier in the season, I added worm humis (vermicompost) on a weekly basis as a top dressing

some of my tomato bushes are nearing 7 foot tall now (and still making flowers) .... there are loads of toms, but still green (some are starting to change colour) ....

sungold has had a few ripe toms on the bottom trusses, and I think most of sungold will ripen soon (really sweet tasting and I will plant loads more of these next year)

I have 1 hanging basket with tumbling toms, and we have been eating daily for the past week .... there are still a few green toms on there and many 1/2 ripe, but they are nearing their end now

Should you still be feeding toms at this stage?
