Is this blight? (tomatoes)
« on: August 24, 2008, 17:06 »
Hello everyone, went outside today and saw this, i'm in total despair. Big tomatoes everywhere and then spotted this:-

Some if them have even split  :?
This is only on one tomato plant at the moment the rest of them appear fine.
Sorry if someone else has already posted about this before, i'm just a total novice with tomatoes and the like.
If its not blight, does anyone else know what it could be.
Thanks for you help.

Kind regards
Kerry

Agreed, it's blight.  Were the leaves affected first?  Remove the plant and burn it if possible.

Oh no, just when they doing so well.
Okay right first things first, how do i get rid of blight?
The affected tomato plant is in a cold frame with about 3 other plants in, should i remove it from the rest of them?

Ice:- i spotted a couple of yellow leaves that looked like they were dead that was about a week ago. Then today this with the tomatoes. But has been raining none stop for about three weeks maybe even longer where i am.

Again thanks for all your help i really appreciate it :)

Remove it immediately then go to a garden centre tomorrow and see if there is anything you can use to control it.  I lost about 30 plants to the wet summer last year.

Doing very well with the tomatoes outside, picked several nice red ones this morning.  The ones in the green house are very small and all green, no sign of them turning red.  Will stick to the cues as we have had 17 so far and another 21 to come !!!

just came back from the plot where lots have blight including ours -some are burning others are spraying and still others are doing nothing but letting them sit there and rot which I think, in my limited knowledge about this subject can only make it spread more.  am I right or wrong here?  We have burned all our plants now-and it was horrible all those lovely tomatoes going up in flames- :(  :(

I'm off to b&Q to get some stuff tomorrow, just hoping the blight doesn't spread everywhere else.
I'm so glad yours are doing well this year Ice, its good to know that you didn't give up especially after last year.
Hi wighty some of mine are starting to turn orange others are still green, but hopefully will get some soon, can't wait to eat them.
Aw muddifoot thats not good, wow burning them that must have heartbreaking. I felt like that today as i was pulling mine out.
