hens keep preening thier feathers
« on: August 29, 2009, 17:57 »
Can any answer a question for me which is.
Do I need to be concerned with 2 of my bantams which appear to be continualy preening their feathers. they are feeding well, scatching normally and appear otherwise happy. My other Bantam is behaving normally.
I have only had then for a week and are new to keeping Chickens.

The floor of the run is Bark chips with soil below (which they scratch away at and the coop is covered with wood shavings with alittle Diatom powder added.

They have a dust bath in an old cat litter tray with sand/soil mix. they have all used this.

can anyone please let me know if I have anything to be concerned about.

as long as you have checked to make sure they are not after lice, mine also preen, especially when it has been windy and they get a bit ruffled.
