Mrs Sadgit has bought a grape vine from Wilkos, can I just bung it in the ground now? and will it actually grow in the N-E England?

Cheers

i have an out door grape vine its bokoop glory a dark red grape.
its growing over a pergola  its hard as nails nothing bothers it no matter what the weather throws at it. and in north east lancs thats about the same distance north as leeds.i seem to recall having heard of a vineyard in scotland somewhere.

I have eight!  I've no idea if they'll grow.  I only planted them yesterday.

I've got them located in my biggest greenhouse with very deep beds which will serve them well.

Those of you that have vines, do they actually produce any fruit?

Oooo, I would be so excited over one grape, unfortunately not a very effective use of my little space

We have thought about growing one as the leaves make great wine.  It would have to be grown in a pot due to lack of space but I am unsure as to how big the pot would need to be.

We inherited ours, we have 5 growing up the front of our house, 3 white and 2 red.  We weren't sure what to do with them so asked the neighbour, and cut them back, last Feb.  it was quite worrying the amount we had to cut back, but they certainly survived their first pruning from us.  They give a fantastic amount of shade during summer and we had a prolific amount of grapes.
I believe you have to cut them back when there is no danger of frost, otherwise they bleed?  We hardly watered ours, they are planted through some concrete and our soil is really stoney, so they hardly need any looking after at all.  In my opinion, easy, attractive, satisfying plants....go for it!!!
