Chicken names.
« on: July 23, 2011, 17:35 »
now that our chicks are 4 weeks old we are starting to think of what we might call them in the future. We still don't know their sexes yet so no names will stick just yet, well all exept one who has been called Scrufty since it hatched.
Scrufty hatched a while after the rest and instead of fluffing up it waw a sticky kind of chick that spiked up instead and has looked scruffy ever since.
We were talking about names this morning (the kids and I) but I just can't imagine calling out to them- Scrufty, fidget, boco and lil!!!  :lol:

How did you name your chickens?

Not many of ours have names, but some of the rescues and the cockerels already had names when they came here, so:

Rocky the LS cross has his 4 ladies, Chalky the LS, Buffy the Buff Orp, Goldy the goldline and Welly the Welsummer.

Then there is Bertie Rooster the RIR, and the LS cockerel we re-homed I called Jeeves!  Then Rosa and Bella the white silkies were already named by Cara, and Klaus the gold silkie cockerel.

None of the others have names though!

Of course we are chickenless at the moment, but we prefer descriptions - generally related to colour or markings -  rather than names. But yes I appreciate, this can get difficult if there are lookalikes etc. ::)

We can't tell the difference between our LM Sablepoot hens so they're all called Jojo, short for Josephine.  The Lavender chick cockerels OH has called Oliver and Ronny because they've got 'problems' (don't ask ::)) the females are still to be named and the Dutch Bantam boy is Fred, his sister is still to be named :D

We have a Fidget rabbit :D

Elanor, Bloomers (looks like she's wearing them), Bianca, Snowy, Jet, Black Beauty (senior hen).  These have recently been joined by Brummell (because he's a bit of a dandy) and Calli.  The last two are 12 weeks old and though we know Brummell is a cockerel we are still not sure about Calli.  S/he has a hens stance and hasn't started to crow so we are hoping s/he will be laying eggs!
11 bantams (and counting!) 2 dogs 1 cat

We have gone for colour, character and the plain odd (mostly chosen by my little girl)  :wacko:

All Orps (so no breed related names), we have adults hens;

April,  May and June (all black and no way of knowing which is which, although OH knows)
Ginger, Henrietta and Glitter (a sliver lace named by my little girl).

Then Chicks we have;

Ebb and Flo (never apart)
Socks (has feathers on His/her legs)
Willow and Splash
Jumble (lots of colours not sure what colour his/her parents were)
Daffodil (Lemon Cuckoo) and Cinders (a scruffy black him or her)
