Pox?
« on: October 30, 2012, 17:58 »
I think one of my new chicks, the SLW has pox. She has just recovered from infectious bronchitis and now has a very swollen eye, crusted over with bleeding scabs (as well as some other scabs on her face). Eating and drinking well apart from that. She is in isolation, tried a home made vet collar but she went mad. Tried to cover the eye with a dressing which was impossible.
I don't know what to do. My fault for buying sicks from a poor breeder but that was my lack of experience too.
Does pox really have to run its course? Please help.

are you sure she hasn't been pecked in her eye?
To be sure I would suggest you get her to a vet as soon as possible.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Pretty sure she hasn't been pecked in the eye as it has got progressively worse surrounding the eye over the last week. We also have another bird that has a similar crusted lump on her head next to her comb and smaller ones around her face.
We treated the eye with 'golden eye' and treating the outside with iodine.

Thanks for responding.
