I would think that dog nail clippers would do the job.  Be very careful though as you don't want to cut the quick and cause a bleed.

I was at the vets with one of my broodys last week and said about her long claws.  She said to leave well alone as she had long quicks and once she is scratting about more with the chicks they will wear down naturally.

I would leave well alone. One of ours kept getting mud balls and I tried but it was difficult and even tho' I took a tiny bit off the nail bled. It was quite scary.

I wont be repeating it. In future I will wash off the mudball.

I felt really guilty and kept apologising to her.

If you are going to go ahead then go to you tube and search for cutting chickens nails. There is a really good demo on how to do it.

you can get something called quick stop so if you cut the quick it stops the blood instantly. I have never cut chickens claws but im a dog groomer so i guess its the same concept. just a thought in case you do go ahead and make the chooks nail bleed cause if its anything like a dogs it doesnt stop for some time. I get mine here www.groomers-online.com
