i have a hen, she hasnt laid for a while she's about 3 yrs old yesterday this thing came out of her, looked like a lump of meat smelt awful when i chopped it up..she's well in herself, eating and drinking well, any advice on what it could be?

Sounds like a lash... google it and see if there are any similarities

Could be the end of her laying days though

They often look something like this



Can be caused by an infection and is the lining of the egg tract being sloughed off.

it didnt look as slimey as that..dont mind if her egg laying days are over as she's the funniest thing ever to watch...did take a pic but having trouble getting it on here...

somebody likened the lash they found to looking like wafer thin sliced packet ham but smelling awfull

They are not eggs.  They are the lining of the reproductive tract which has sloughed off.

It is often caused by an infection which needs treating so they can be something to worry about.  The hen is also unlikely to lay ever again.

One of my hens laid something horrible today, which I've never seen before. Looking at post here, it sounds like it was one of those "lash eggs". It looked like a thick bent finger shape, fleshy colour.But it was hard to touch, not slimy or soft. And when we poked inside, it had like thin layers of hard substance, kind of frilly looking layers..We thought imaybe it was layer upon layer of shell, but not sure. Are lash eggs usually soft? This thing didn't feel like the descriptions of lash eggs here, so just wondering.

sounds just like a lash to me - when one of mine laid a lash I cut it open - there was a little bit fluid come out and the whitish/pinkish coloured shape resembled wafer thin ham formed into the shape of the lash. It was not slimy and as the layers were tightly packed quite firm.
