Hi,
I'm James and i aquired my allotment in early May, in Rural Gloucestershire.
It was overgrown and took a fair amount of clearing.
Now it's well cultivated, and I've got some good crops growing.
I've harvested plenty of courgettes and a first small amount of runner beans.
I did get a copy of Johns book 'The essential allotment guide' that led me to this forum.
Hopefully i can get a few good tips and advise here.
Regards, James.
Why did i put 4 courgette plants in..

Welcome to the forums James and congrats on your new lotty. You've clearly made great progress there!  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Welcome James,  you’ll always remember what year it was you got your plot won’t you! Sounds like you’ve got on with it really well.

Hi James!

Welcome to a truly friendly and helpful bunch of people.  Personally, I'm willing to be friendly, but my helpfulness is a bit limited by lack of knowledge!  ::)

I got my 1/3 plot near the beginning of lockdown, but am nowhere near as far on as you.  I'll get there, though.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
Hands up... I did use a herbicide to get my plot cleared. It was matted in heavy couch grass and after 10 days it was just straw.
However it meant that i could soon plant up, and that's why I've now got good growing rows of, beans, p'sprouting, carrots, beetroot, courgettes, b'squash, savoys, and spinach beet, red kale ..Oh and outdoor toms.
But now I'll go organic, (I've netted all the brassicas)
As i started in early May I'd have lost a whole season to clear it by hand.. I do get a nice bit of horse tail, but the guys tell me to just keep the hoe at it!
We want organic veg moving forward so I'll be looking for tips on here as and when problems arise.  ::)
