Hi  from my limited knowledge certain treatments may require a prescription from you Vet, which they will charge you for. It depends if you have a 'chicken' friendly Vet. I am lucky in that my Vet specialises in chickens so I can ask her loads of questions etc. She recently treated my hens for Histomanas, and whilst there is no specific cure she did her best to try and stop it spreading further and gave me a very strong wormer & performed two autopsies & charged me £35.  If you can only buy it for 'professional' use it might be worth asking your vet to source it for you. I found this website www.pestcontroldirect.co.uk/acatalog/Ficam and they have a package of products for the hobbyist (i.e. not professional) which is specifically aimed at Red Mite etc.  Good luck

I can't get Prod's link to work, but the website for pestcontroldirect.co.uk does list quite a few products for control of red mite.

I've used Poultry Shield and it is very effective at killing an existing mite infestation, but you need a decent pressurised sprayer to get the diluted product into every nook and cranny.  Most garden centres will have them and they don't cost the earth.  It dries out the mites and you get a snow storm of dessicated little bodies a couple of days after use, so you know it has worked.

If it is just a preventative you want, most people use diatomaceous earth powder puffed into the joints and around the perches.  Hillfooter (a forum member of old) used to recommend making this into a slurry and painting it onto the coop interior.  He was a font of knowledge and this tip has been widely used by forum members ever since  :)

Ficam W is only for professionals and unless you have the correct license you shouldn't be using it. You are best sticking to poultry shield
Staffies are softer than you think.
