I think I've made a big mistake . Yesterday I made green tomato chutney and because my small jars hadn't finished in the dishwasher I put the ready chutney in a big Kilner jar and sealed . It was about an hour and a half later that I transferred to the small jars and so the chutney had cooled by this time .
Will the chutney still store or have I ruined it ? :unsure:

Without the heat I doubt the jars will have vacuum sealed :(
You can save them by tipping it out, heating chutney, jars and lids and putting back in jars. Or water bathing should work as well.

I think the vinegar , salt and sugar will prevent spoilage, i have jars of chutney that have been open for months and never seem to get any nasties in them.
Re-heating the full small jars in a bain marie is an option if you are reall concerned about it.

I thought about this as I know chutney can keep for ages once opened . Maybe I'll put it in the fridge and just make sure we eat it all . Thankfully I only made five jars.

I would tip it out, bring it back to the boil, wash & sterilise the jars in the oven,which will dry them too, boil the lids & repot, it needs to be left a couple of months to mature & I haven't room in my fridge for that many jars

Well done, you'll be pleased you did. I like to use small jars too if I can, it means I can share it further & id rather open a fresh jar more frequently. I just need to bite the bullet & decide to buy new ones instead of recycling but it seems such a waste of the old perfectly good jars. But it would make life easier, one shape for chutney & one for jam & one for jelly. Plus new lids would look so much nicer & they would stack better

Ive done this with some old chutney i just boil it up add bit more vinegar or sugar , i find putting in smaller jars helps if you have lotts of different types of chutney and dont want lots of open jars , i do same with jam .
