Christmas leftovers
« on: December 29, 2018, 14:41 »
So how's everyone doing with using it all up then?  I purposely didn't buy loads, but even so we have leftovers and they are getting eaten one way or another.   I hate binning food.

The remains of the lamb joint (OH is not a fan of turkey) were sliced and put in the freezer, but I have defrosted some for tonight to make a pilaf of some sort, depending on what veg I find in the fridge.

We also have the pud to eat that we skipped on the day, as we were too full.  That too is defrosting as the pot of cream to go with it needs eating up.

There are a couple of pieces of cheese in the freezer, but I bought a cauliflower today to use one up for a dinner.

We have crisps and crackers left, but they can stay in the cupboard for now, plus various sweets and biscuits.  I didn't buy any, but these are pressies.  OH says his diet starts in the New Year and is munching his way through quick before I take them to work and dump them in the tea room

The extra pounds registering on the scales indicate that there are very few leftovers in our fridge. A small bit of the ham and a little of the pate is all that remains.

We sliced up the leftover beef & ham today & I portioned it in to individual portions & put about 20 beef & 10ham in the freezer. We had hubby’s family around for dinner last night so that used up some but of course I had to make things so the chocolate mousse cake is available plus the remains of the Christmas pud that only got started last night, 1/2 pot of cream but that’s good until 3rd. Beef bones all stewed down ,reduced & frozen to go with the beef. Quite a few gingerbread biscuits left & a few pieces of a very nice Florentine slice still to go, & then there’s the chocolates & biscuits we’ve been bought but hubby will see them off.
I need to do a stock take of the freezer & menu plan for the next few weeks, that will keep the shopping bill down a bit too
