Guess what, another newby looking for a little help! :)
« on: September 26, 2009, 14:42 »
I'm completely new to allotment use but not new to gardening  :) and looking for a little help. I live in West Sussex and I am looking for an allotment! Does anyone know any places available for me?

Thank you very much!

Welcome to the forums HH  :)

I'll move this over to Grow Your Own so the growers can see it, but the usual place to start is to contact your local council, whether parish or city.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

seconded......i went onto my council website and 'searched' allotments.  it came up with lots of contact details for how to list for a plot and e-mail addresses.  i thought it was going to take 2 years to get a plot but got one within 2 months!!!!  now is a good time to list as many allotment societies send out their renewals this time of year and they will know how many plots they have available for the coming year shortly.

good luck, i hope you are as lucky as i was.

Which bit of WS happyhippy? It's a long county and you'd not want a day's cycle to get there each time.  ;)

Another alternative is to put an advert in your local shop/s for anyone willing to let you use part of their garden.  If you can do this you also have less security worries.

There are a set of allotments in Clarkson Avenue, off Brighton Road, Horsham.

I haven't the foggiest who runs them but I know they are there as I've often looked in through the gate when walking to the Teachers' Centre which is at the end of Clarkson Avenue / Road and junction of Brighton Road.

Might be worth a try if that is not too far from you?  ;)
