Ok so I planted out too many seeds this year and now am having difficulty identifying some of them.
Here are some pics below... see if you can lend me some of your wisdom in figuring out what they are?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Im using second hand compost so im hoping I dont get nettles and weeds. Although I did sprout some hops and dragon fruit seeds amoung this lot. All the rest of the seeds are just the normal seeds you'd find from wilkos and poundshops.
Thanks

One & two are some sort of leggy brassicas.
Some of them do look a bit nettle like don't they?
-
Is 3 spinach or chard?

I was thinking exactly the same DD.
Are the seedlings in the middle some type of flower, perhaps cosmos

I think the fist 2 are brocoli, spinach or turnip. The 3rd one I initially thought carrots. Its the last 2 pics im unsure of (ignoring of course the pepper or tomatoe seedling in the middle of the 4th pic.
Cheers

I Cosmos - you could be right. Thought they looked familiar, but could not put my finger on it!
-
Its not meant to be cosmos but could be :tongue2: My mother got hold of the compost from her work which is basically a mini garden centre. I believe they grew flowers more so than fruits and veg. My intention is to only grow edible stuff.
-
I've numbered them for you to make it easier for everyone.
Number 3 looks just like my calendula or cornflower (it's too wet to pop outside and check which one) seedlings.
-
If they are carrots, they're very leggy and you've going to have a bit of a problem not disturbing the roots when you plant out.
-
What's the prize? :D
-
Could you tell us what seeds you planted and maybe we can match them. Rather than wildly guessing what they could be?

That doesn't always help with these "games".

Ok here is the list of what I planted...
Cucumber, beetroot, parsnips, turnips, corgette, peppers, leeks, iceberg lettuce, basil, wild rocket, various tomatoes, spinach, red onion, sweetcorn, broccoli, cayenne peppers, radish, various beans (including an exotic range), cabbage, mustard greens, garlic chives, oriental spicy leaf mix, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, squash, leek, carrots, spring onions, cress, basil and corriander.
Hopefully that helps narrow things down a tad. The winner gets eternal happiness :D (although I wouldnt know their correct till its grown) ::)

could the last one be a strawberry plant even though i didnt see it on the list????
-
It could be but I dont remember planting out strawberries this year. I have some established strawberries, rubharb and asparagus from last year though but they are currently outside.
Thanks for numbering the photos Yorkie, its kinda ironic that I didnt label my photos just like I didnt label my sedlings.
-
I would say.... 1 is lettuce of some sort, 2 is one of the brassicas for sure, 3 is carrots (resow these direct if i were you) 4 is peppers or chillies with a couple of invader weeds on each end and 5 is probably a couple of weeds too.
Get some labels! ;)
-
No. 1 isn't lettuce, not with a heart shaped cotyledon. That's characteristic of a brassica. At this stage it would be impossible to tell which. Anything from a radish to oil seed rape!
-
Good game, good game! :D
-
I threw a lots of old seeds in the garden, and lots of them came out! What I did is dig them in!
Or you have to wait for their real leaf and then you may be able to figure out what are they.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I shall post some updated pictures in a few weeks and see if we can keep the game going aswell as serving as an education for other people starting out in the veg growing game. But if you've read this then you've probably learnt to get some labels just like I shall be doing next year.

I think it's rocket, rasdish, cosmos and parsnip. What do I know?
