Title: best battery strimmer?
Post by: surbie100 on August 06, 2012, 14:12
I'm thinking of getting a battery strimmer for my plot to ease the grassy burden.

I'd prefer battery over petrol.

Does anyone have any they would recommend?

Cheers
Surbie

Hi - I have a worx battery strimmer and a mcculloch petrol strimmer. Knowing what I know now,  I wouldn't buy a battery one - I have a spare battery but even with 2 fully charged batteries, I can never seem to get the job completed. The petrol version is obviously a lot better at strimming but comes with its own problems eg,mixing petrol and 2 stroke oil.

I had a Bosch battery strimmer and soon sold it. OK for light edging but no more. 30 mins maximum on a battery.

I bought a second hand Riyobi petrol strimmer for very little more and the extra power will tackle anything. Mind you, I had then to buy a face mask, ear defenders, petrol can and mixing bottle.

Sounds good Salmo, but the OP did say

I'd prefer battery over petrol.

Unless other battery strimmers are a lot more powerful than the Bosch my experience says opt for petrol.

Some people are of slighter build or are not confident with engines and would prefer battery power and I suspect the OP being female is in one or both of those categories, although those who are robust enough and confident with an engine would probably agree with you.

I can't abide the smell of petrol.  I accept this choice means less power from the strimmer...

Before you buy a cordless strimmer, check on cost and availability of replacement battery. My experience has been that they can cost more than a new strimmer. Worx (spit) my charger failed. Not to worry I thought, 3 year warranty. Wrong!! Warrenty does not cover charger.
My current Bosch performs ok.....so far!
