Just wondered if anyone else had a person at there allotment that cannot keep there nose out of what your doing? Someone who keeps quoting "the rules" or what they think should be the rules of the allotment?

Why do these people bother???

do you have a copy of "the rules"?
if so, I'd just make sure you don't break any, and just tell the fools to p*ss off.

Mmmmmm like the kind allotment holder that told me I was spending too much money creating raised beds and putting down weed suppressant membrane for my paths. Ohhh and that I my vegetables would work out to be really expensive per item because of all the cost I am incurring!! He also mentioned that I was wasting space!!To that happy happy man on my site!!.........

I HAVE AN ALLOTMENT  FOR THE FUN AND A HOBBY ~ THE FRESH AIR ~THE VEGETABLES I PRODUCE.......AND I DONT INTEND ON TRYING TO SUPPLY TESCO'S

Each and everyone of us have different requirements/needs etc. so our needs for an allotment will be different for each individual.  Having an allotment is being part of a little mini community. In every community there are irritating people, extremely lovely people and very nosey people! all rolled into the one place.

Phew I think I have finally got this off my chest !!!

One good natured fella that keeps opening the chicken coop to give our chickens green treats but leaves the door open - now we know how two of our hens wee taken by the fox!!!

The other has the plot next to us and obviously hates us - keeps sayig that we shouldnt be allowed to have chickens as they will attract rats and snakes!!! clearly a nut case

The more I read about other people's sites, the more grateful I am to be on mine!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

We have a right tool on our site. He is always moaning to me about other peoples plots. My favourite one was he asked the commitee to ensure a plotholder took a fence down because 'It's made of pallettes and makes it look like a shanty town'. I laughed at him and told him it was an excellent idea and I will be looking for pallettes myself. I caught him last week taking photos of weed seedlings on other plots. Personaly I think some people need to moan about something otherwise will have to look at their own shortcomings.

most of them mean no harm and are probably just being friendly rather than poking their nose in

You can't do anything on our plots without lots of advice from the old fellas who mean well and they do like to mingle and chat to people. Who could blame them.  Some of them are widows or widowers and they go to the plots to socialise so don't judge them too harshly

They are usually very generous. You wait and see who comes forward with replacement plants after everyone has lost theirs through frost  :D

99.9% of allotment holders are great on my plot! We have been given loads of advice, plants seeds etc....Sometimes I think that some people are negative by nature. If the plot holder that said all those negative things to me and not one positive comment says something nice in the near future I will eat one of my 8 foot bamboo poles in one !!!

this is why I started this thread...to see if it was just me that has the bad luck when it comes to next door neighbours.
My lady is a real pain, we started at the same time. Our 1st chat, or should I say "my 1st instruction" was not to put a path in the middle of the plot as it takes too much of her growing space. My raised beds are not in keeping with the rest of the allotment, my greenhouse is an eyesore. (its an old house lean too fixed to 2 new fence panels, and looks really good) the top of my allotment that I have not got round to dealing with yet is ruining hers by spreading weed seeds, then when I used round up to solve the weed problem, she moaned that I should not use weed killer. Bare in mind that I got a farmer with a lifetimes experience killing weeds on a calm day to do the job!!  Then I was told that I could not put up a shin high trellis to grow flowers up.
After trying my best not to upset this woman and do what i could to keep her happy as I did not want any problems with someone so close. I made a call to the council to ask about my future plans, I was told by the lady who runs the allotments "its your plot, you do what ever you want within reason"
I now ignore this woman and say nothing to her and if I am going to be there all day I take my i-pod, so when she tries to talk I just point at my earphones. I never wanted any of this and just want to be left to garden and relax on my deck chair when I feel like it.

Well, if you were my neighbour I'd be reeeally jealous of what you've achieved.   :D

I would make every effort to be your friend, then I'd ask you for your help in practical projects  :!:

Just ignore her.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
