That's my dog...........
« on: February 03, 2010, 19:25 »
My brave and wonderful Casper was put to sleep late this afternoon, he had a lunch of sirloin steak and an afternoon snooze on the sofa..........he had tea of sirloin steak and then we took him on his favourite walk through Raby woods...............

the vets were brilliant and allowed me to take him to the large animal practice (the farm animal part) he hasn't been there before so he didn't know he was at the vets, he stayed in the back of my car and the vet went to great care injecting him, he simply went to sleep sprawled on the back seat, not a twitch or a jerk, it was very peaceful, the snow started to fall and everything was silent......... except the gentle sobbing of Pip.

i wanted to write a poem for him but my minds gone blank

the snow continued to fall and the ground where we planned to bury him is rock hard, so, he's still wrapped in my duvet in the back of my car.

So sorry to hear about Casper, but what a peaceful way to go.

Rom this is a very famous and beautiful poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye.

It may not be about a dog but I think it fits

I Am Not There

Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there:
I did not die.

It really means that your memories of him will live on and always be with you and you will see him in the common things of life.

Aunty, i chose that poem and the vicar read it at my daughters funeral, at her graveside, it was slightly different..........

Do not stand at my grave and weep
i am not here i do not sleep
i am the thousand winds that blow
i am the diamond glint on snow
i am the sunlight on ripened grain
i am the soft autumnal rain
i am the stars that shine at night
do not stand at my grave and cry
i am not here i did not die

at the point where the vicar said "i am the thousand winds that blow" a great gust of wind came from nowhere and blew his white frock up over his head, if it hadn't been so awful watching him struggling to get it off it would have been funny :)
