I've just dug out my salsify, which I've never grown or eaten before.  I tried it a couple of weeks ago, just boiled and peeled it but thought it was really tasteless, does anyone know of anything interesting to do with it, before I chuck it on the compost?

pooor mans cabbage .steaming it apparantly makes it taste better ...me i reckon smothering it with curry wouldnt help it  :roll:

There is a thread further down about them, also can be done in batter for deep frying. :)

My mum always cooked it by peeling it which makes it go all sticky and then boiling and making a white sauce.  It was nice, but seemed like a lot of trouble for such a slim vegetable.I used to have to wash up the sticky dishes.
