Good value?
« on: June 12, 2012, 22:25 »
So my chicken keeping has rubbed off on my dad's best mate who went out and bought a trio of Light Sussex bantams at the weekend...£60  :nowink: the best part is, they're 3 years old....if only he'd listened to advice given to him, ie don't rush and always ask our opinion before you buy!!

I paid £20 for my trio at a year old and get two eggs a day without fail.

He's still giving it the old "oh but they're 'pure' Light Sussex" to cover up the fact that he's been shafted

Anyone else been in a similar situation or are we all switched on here?  :D

Crikey   Seems if people have their heart set on something specific the're prepared to pay for it, i bet the seller had a wry smile on their face

When you say trio is that 3 hens or 2 hens and a cockerel?  Here a trio is 2 hens and a cockerel, (which seems to catch a few people out) just checking thats the standard nationwide.

Yeah i'd only ever use the term 'trio' for two hens and a cock bird. But then others mean three hens, you can't win  :tongue2:

Thing is if he'd waited till my chicks were up and sexed, i would have given him a trio considering the amount of things he's given/lent us over the years.

How does the seller sleep at night  :nowink: the same guy wanted £8 a bird for ex-battery hens......!!

Blimey, 8 quid a bird for ex-batts!!!

I gave a donation of £20 for 5 ex-batts at my local animal sanctuary (lost one early on) and have never looked back, even over winter when the laying slowed down - we never got to a point where we ran out of eggs!!!
