Am I right in saying that Barring is sex-linked?

I've read that where it isn't sex-linked it is down to a group of genes including the pattern gene?

But how would a novice know which is which?  Other than reading it of course.

Is there a table anywhere that gives this sort of information for breeds?

Sex linked barring is white, though autosomal barring which is black (or blue,  splash, chocolate or lavender) if carrying dominant white will also be. The best way to test is put a black cock to a barred hen, only cocks will be barred if sex linked.
Transverse barring (Pg/Db) only shows on a cock that is E^R  based though hens can be e+, -E^R, e^Wh, e^b.  (not sure about E^R -Fay, e^bc, e^y, e^q) Obviously it would not show on an E based bird of either sex.

At the moment I am trying to understand it all.  When I start getting eggs hatched and reared I would like to try experimenting to see if I have understood things correctly.
