Bluetits nesting
« on: April 02, 2012, 11:51 »
Hi I've had a very old nestbox hanging in my garden and not been visited for ten years. As I had so many different birds visiting my garden this winter I decided to get another one and maybe hang it somewhere else but it was a toss up between a cheap one and a camera one so I oped for a cheap one knowing they probably wouldn't nest anyway. Low and behold it was up for a week and already there's tits nesting in it been building their nest for a few days. What I need to know is if I can change that particular box next year to a camera one as I've heard they visit the same box each year to nest, will this change put them off at all? Wish I had got it now in the first place but thought it would just be used as a feature anyway. Any advise would be good thanks.

The box is obviously in a favourable position, so changing the box fo another one in exactly the same place should be fine  :D

PS Blue tits do not have a very long life span, so it may not be the same birds that arrive next year ... about 1 year to 18m or thereabouts

I made a wooden bird box this year, and screwed it up onto the side of our shed where it is a nice sheltered position, and I kept hearing rustling noises when I was inside the shed, and then one day I noticed a blue tit poke its head out of the hole :D

Very satisfying :)
