Parsnips
« on: August 01, 2009, 22:18 »
Hi to all,

I have just got my allotment this year and am quite pleased with the results after the hard work put in since obtaining the plot in late February.Chuffed to bits taking home lettuce, peas(with free caterpillars for protein)french beans, beetroot, radish, spuds, courgettes but tried one of the reasonably sized parsnips only to find it tasted awful - bitter.Have i pulled it too early?

Hi Arnie and welcome to the site  :D

Sounds as though you've got a great harvest there, congrats.

It's far too early to be digging up parsnips, they generally need a frost to improve the flavour.  Just let them alone for another couple of months minimum.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
