I fancy one for the occasional light use where my normal powered cultivator is too unwieldy. However there's no way I'd pay the normal retail price for one to use it so infrequently so does anyone know if there is a website or forum where these are sold second-hand, please?

Are you referring to to a merry tiller type of machine which can be bought new and used or a Wolseley merry tiller,which as far as I am aware can only be bought used?  the place to look would be Local press and online auctions,unfortunately we are coming up to the most expensive time of year to buy a rotavator.

I'm looking at an electric The Handy Electric Tiller/Cultivator at £68 plus £6.95 P&P ebay and a small Petrol Generator 230v & 12v for around £80 - £90 

Then I can also use all my electric gardening stuff and even the jetwash to clean off my paving slabs on the site etc. if I want

To run the handy tiller which is 800 watts you will need a genny with a bare minimum 1.5 kva and  depending on what jetwash you have could be double , treble or more that output needed.
I have a 2.2 kva honda and it won't run a makita electric chainsaw.

the problem is with the starting current of the motors, it can be up to 3x the running current, and if you suddenly demand too much current the generator will either trip or stall.

  you want to pay , or how far your prepared to travel

hi you either want a mantis or a merry tiller mantis are small weeders merry tillers are heavy rotavators .McKissic took over MERRYTILLER production. jezza
