I've just received my raspberry canes
« on: January 18, 2013, 16:08 »
I've just received my raspberry canes from Marshalls.

I can't put them in just yet because the ground is frozen.

It hasn't snowed yet here.

What shall I do?
are they okay to keep in the bag and watered?
or should i put them in a bucket of soil inside?

can i put them out, in case it snows?

i've got a garage i could put them in - how should i store them?

any help will be gratefully received.

thank you :)

Are they completely bare rooted?

If so, I'd soak them in a bucket of water (in the garage probably) for 24h to rehydrate the roots.

Then put them in a pot (not a bucket - you need drainage) with some damp compost until the ground is neither frozen nor waterlogged.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Don't forget to add a handful of bonemeal to the planting hole when you plant them out.
