On the subject of giant onions , i've just sown a dozen in a couple of 3inch pots in John Innes seed compost with fingers crossed and put them in the propagator.I bought them from Victorian Nurseries and are called Shirley giant onions , just wandered if anyone else has tried them and with what success ?

i planted mine on boxing day which is the usual time to sow giant onions. they are fun to grow check out this guy's site he grows them too   http://www.allotment-diary.co.uk/Giant-exhibition-onion-2009.html

I started some kelsea seeds in January along with some bedfordshire champions and aylsa craig, They are romping away and have planted a couple of rows out already.
   I hear people saying all the time on the plot "don't bother with seed onions, waste of time", we'll see , I have high hopes.
