Apple trees on allotment
« on: November 16, 2010, 22:04 »
Hi
A (dumb?) question from a newbie!
I have just taken on an half an allotment which has got apple trees planted at one end.
The fruit has been left to rot on the ground.
As these trees are capable of fruiting, is there any problem leaving them in situ, or getting rid of them, to provide better growing conditions for veggies to maximise space?
Thanks
John

You can do whatever you choose with them John.

If you don't want the trees you can take them out.  If you want them then some correct pruning will improve them.

Are you thinking of getting rid of them because they are too big ?

i think i would go for keeping them, at least until you have had a crop and tried the fruit. they just might be the best eating/cooking apples you have ever tasted

If you do decide to get rid of them, make sure to offer them to others before you destroy them.

Fruit bearing apple trees are worth something so I would keep them if I were you.
