roses
« on: August 22, 2012, 10:08 »
i have a red rose that was in the garden , i dont know a great deal about roses its very nice its got multiple roses in a cluster but they allways looks droopy as the stems are thin , when we moved it it hadent been pruned very well so we cut it right back and its got alot more flowers but the stems are still abit droopy any ideas it may just be they should be that way but seems to me we are missing the best of the rose , also next to it is a lovly peach rose which i have only had 2 roses from as all the buds were sheared off by a bug they looked chewed , glad to say there are some more now .

some roses are known for weak flower stems - Ena Harkness, a red one, suffers badly

and the flowers sometimes face downwards  :(

A lot of the David Austin "English Roses" are like that - just too much flower for the thickness of stem (especially when wet!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

It's a shame  :(  but that's what we get for breeding bigger and bigger flowers - rather than having the small wild ones
