Limping and looking sad
« on: November 09, 2013, 15:11 »
We got our first ex-bats on saturday last week,  ONe has a significant limp but I don't think she had it in the first few days.  Today we let them out around our garden for the 1st time and the others were loving the freedom but she is clearly suffering.  She had a few pecks and limped about a bit has just been on one leg looking sad for a few hours (i put her away).

What should I do?  Should I be worried?

I would be. It could be broken. Pick her up and see if the leg feels hot.   You might have to wait until she's gone to bed before you can handle her. They are far more amenable once they've gone to bed  :D

There is a list of vets on this board, all recommended by us, so check up to see if there's one near you and if you're still worried then don't hesitate.

She might just have a thorn in her foot or something, or a small wound, but you'll have to get close up and have a look.  Dried mealworms are a good treat for when you need to handle your birds  :)  Let us know how you get on  :)

Thanks Compostqueen.  When I put her away I had a good look and I can't see any mark or cut.  I didn't feel her leg though.  She's perked up a bit now the others are in the run and is eating but still limping.

I will get her checked by a vet I think.

She might have just landed on it funny. One of mine did this.
I kept her away from the other for a few days, but in full view of them until she perked up.
She was limping for about 3 or 4 weeks, but you could see she was improving each day.

She's looking much better.  Still limping but not looking sad any more.  I've seen her trying to scratch with it so it must be feeling better.
