Llama manure
« on: August 30, 2022, 06:59 »
Am collecting some llama poo later today.  It is a mixture of poo and straw, can I put it straight on the beds before I cover with weed suppressant or should I stack it for later?

Surprising what a chance remark in the checkout queue leads to.

Good morning GraciesGran,

I should stack your lama poo for 4-6 months under cover.  I have a source of alpaca poo and that is what I do.    Cheers,  Tony

We went Llama trekking a few weeks ago and one of the conversations that came up with the guide was that llama beans  :D (manure) was one of the few manures that can be used directly without stacking, the guide said she had been using it directly on her garden for years. I just did a quick google search to clarify what the guide said, and it seems to be true.

I doubt that llamas are any more efficient at consuming grass than horses. IE you will end up with loads of weeds. I dig the soil up then put the horse poo in and cover. My assumption is less weeds will come through. Following year rotavate to mix it better although that might not be necessary. So personally I wouldn't put on top. Cow poo I assume will not have any seeds capable of germinating.

Llambs Llettuce probably grows better in sheep poo!

Thank you!

There were a couple of bags of pure poo which have been spread round the fruit cage.  The bags that were mostly poo have been spread over the plot and covered with weed suppressant, the bags that were mostly straw have been added to the compost bins.
