Like many people have reported, my asparagus crop was held back by cold nights and frost over April. Its in full production now but I've noticed quite a few spears pale, wilted. I hope it's frost damage but also worried it may be spear rot. Mostly mine are in raised beds so the ground shouldn't be water logged. I suppose if I keep monitoring, any that might have been caught by frost should be gone by now, mostly that's true but the odd one or two still showing similar signs. Anyone have experience of spear rot and remedies if you have?

Mine has done something similar this year. I had a couple of cuts, then the next lot of spears seemed to stop growing and go pale. The ones coming up now look very healthy. I put it down to the cold weather.

Some of my spears do this most years. I put it down to damage by slugs or the dreaded asparagus beetle. I must confess though the current cold weather seems to have put the beetles off! It doesn’t seem to mean permanent damage.

Thanks for the comments. No new pale damaged spears have come through yet. Fingers crossed it was frost damage
