Drake and chicks.
« on: June 20, 2011, 22:19 »
This is my first full summer with ducks. I've had three broodie hens sitting on their clutches of hens eggs. They have all been contained in their coops inside large cages. The chicks are now here and growing fast. Yesterday I watched as my one drake duck was seriously aggressive towards one of the broodie hens and her brood through the wire. Of course he could not get to the broodie or her chicks but his certainly worries me for when I let the broodies free range with their chicks as I've always done in the past. I've never had a problem with cockerels and chicks. Do you have any experience of this behaviour? Or of course any advice please?

sorry never had ducks and chicks at the same time, although my guinea fowl are great with the chicks I have.
The broody may stand up to the drake if she was out and about with her chicks so you may have to give it a try whilst you are around to stop any aggression.
Staffies are softer than you think.
