Twenty two years and 5000 eggs , i make that 227 every year.
Last time i heard such a story it was a goose and the eggs were 24 carat.

That's even moe unlikely than being 22 years old.  Chx don't usually lay beyond 5 years and if you assume one a day that means it's laid everyday for 14 years.  I don't think so.

I had a hen which I put down this year and lived for just over 10 years which I thought pretty exceptional.   Usually 6 years is a very good age and can be typically anything from 3 to 8.  Usually some disease gets them.

the father of some of my hens was 12 years old and only died from receiving fox wounds, however I think cockerels have a far easier life (should they live at a place where they aren't destined for the pot  ) so really doubt any hen would live as long as they are claiming.

Well my MIL is 93 and looks very likely to go on for 100 but then she hasn't worked since 1946 and hasn't had a care in the world as some poor overworked man has taken care of her every need.  She's a one woman drain on the NHS, she's had new hips, cataracts done, kidney removed and expects every part that gets a little worn to be replaced.  When her time finally comes we are going to have to scrap her.  She goes to the beautition and hairdresser each week.  She has also worked out exactly the right amount of gin to drink for immortality.....................................  I think it's a full bottles worth!
