hi it looks as if its called a groundhog G99 economy model there are others 3hp G3 4hp G4 5hpG5 it should have 26 inch wide rotors they were made in the 70s then made by Qualcast in the 80s for flymo until 1984   jezza

The key to getting correct engine parts, and engine age, will be to find the Model, Type, Code numbers that are stamped into the tinwork of the engine flywheel starter cowling.  They will most likely be in line vertically on the flat section of the tin cowling on the side that is nearest tank/carburettor/airfilter  Sometimes hard to read, it may even be possible to trace over them with paper and pencil to get to read them.  B&S engine parts diagrams/lists can often then be downloaded..and machinery agents will be able to select correct parts from these numbers for your engine.

I would expect the spark plug at new would have been Champion CJ8 but these days would be Champion J19LM or equivalent from other manufacturers.

Just to confirm the numbers will not be...under the guards...but on the outside, in the white painted tin work.

Thank you , I'm half considering replacing the engine with a modern alternative, any suggestions for something that would be comfortably on top of its job ?

hi i have re-engined my merrytiller with a briggs&stratton 650 series engine its5.5 hp cast iron bore pro plus it has low rev pull i can snow plough 21/2 miles on a tank of fuel just above tick over ,the only problem you might find is the exhaust guard fouls the handle bar adjustment this is because the engine is over head valve the pistons 45degrees if you need spares try meetens they do older engine parts    jezza
