Where have all the Easter cacti gone?
« on: March 31, 2022, 15:49 »
Does anyone know where I can track down an EASTER cactus?  (Rhipsalidopsis, not Schlumbergera).

I had a gorgeous one with orange flowers which I lost three years ago, and since then, I haven't been able to find a replacement.  I've tried all the main online retailers and several cacti & succulent specialist nurseries.  Every time I find a company (or individual - I've scoured Ebay and Etsy) who claims to sell them they end up being good old Schlumbergera.  And I just don't like the Christmas cactus flowers - they're too fussy for me.

My original one was 99p from Morrisons, but none of the supermarkets seem to do them any more.

Apparently the names have all been changed, so a Schlumbergera may indeed be an Easter blooming cactus, depending on variety..
It all looks a bit confusing to me

Yes, I think the Easter cactus is now properly known as Hatiora - unfortunately, all the photos of the flowers on the 'Easter cacti' I've found make it obvious that they are the Christmas cactus instead.  It's weird - they were everywhere a few years ago (I think I paid 99p for my last one, in bud, in a 9cm pot, about 6 years ago) but now they seem to have vanished.
