What should I have grown?
« on: May 10, 2015, 23:34 »
Ok so I have picked all the daffodils and tulips, and now I have nothing for the house till the tender stuff in the greenhouse can be planted out.
Is there anything I could have grown to pick now?
Planning for next year now  ::)

Thanks

Elaine

Looking out the window at my garden, I can see some tallish herbaceous geraniums, forget-me-nots, Solomon's Seal, blue bells and Welsh poppies.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

There is not too much for picking for cut flowers this early, but you could try putting in some wallflowers this autumn for rich colour and lovely fragrance, even if they don't last too long in a vase.

Ranunculus are early and very showy and Lily of the Valley would make a charming small posy with some greenery to show it off, plus fill the room with glorious scent  :)

I have Dicentra (Bleeding hearts) growing in my garden which make good cut flowers  :)

I still have daffs and tulips going well- i deliberately planted some later, and also looked for varieties that are later- helps spread the season!

Also - rather oddly my chives have begun to flower- which i think are very pretty!
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....

My friend has some spectacular anemones in a pot -- glowing jewel colours -- that she has on her windowsill.

And I have honeysuckle on the fence which is out -- smells fantastic  :D

I know you're not supposed to bring it indoors but the lilac is stunning at the moment  :)

Aquilegia are everywhere at the moment. I sowed some of the hybrid types last year for my cutting patch at the allotment and they are just beginning to flower for the first time. The first one is disappointingly similar to the species sort that grow like weeds all over my garden.
