Noticed my 5 day old chick has developed straddle leg after I observed its leg at an odd angle to the other one and have big problems walking. After a bit of research on the net I have knocked up a brace to hold the legs in position. Already it is able to stand and, as long as I have fitted it correctly, can be removed in around 4-5 days.
This is the chick with leg at odd angle. Pic taken when only 20 hrs old, but you can clearly see leg behind. And this is where it has stayed since.


Here is the brace made of tissue paper (to prevent furry legs being caught) and sticking plaster.


Now with a bit in the middle to tighten it, I can remove this small piece without the need of removing the whole brace.


And already young Nugget is standing on two feet for the first time. Happy days!


Have popped it back in the broody box...Will update how it goes.

Think I should rename it Houdini! Has got out of it twice now....so now have revised the design and stapled it together in the middle. Try and get out of that one!
