what do you think to this shed?
« on: January 19, 2008, 00:29 »
Now I have a lottie I'm after a shed!

I'm looking for something about 7' x 5' (as I want to store a plastic kiddy table and chairs set for my girls & some cheap toys to keep them amused).

I've seen this one in Wilkos which seems a bargain (I'm after a shiplap type rather than an overlap style).

I don't know what Wilkos sheds are like but I suppose you get what you pay for!!!

What do you think? Do you know of anything better?

Anything on Ebay?  Freecycle?  I think it really is you get what you pay for.  My friend paid £250 for hers and it wobbles in the wind!!!!

I prefer the flat roof ones to the apex roof ones.

You seem to get more window room for seedlings.
The back wall is bigger for hanging up tools etc.

A plus with the Apex roof is you can put battens across the roof and store stuff in the roof space (do it properly, or wear a hard hat!).

 If you've got the nerve, if there are any houses up for sale near you, they might be willing to get rid of their shed, not all new homeowners will want one.

I got the cheapest one from B&Q. It is made of brown paper and string but it has survived two years so far. I strengthened it by building shelves inside from pallet wood and scrap. It is as secure as a paper bag so I chain my tools up inside.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

All I will say is take security precautions if you are spending this sort of money on a shed.  I was told of someone on our allotments who had a shed stolen because it was a new one.  It must have been lifted over the high security fencing we have too.....

I bought this one: http://www.shedstore.co.uk/itemlist.php/Windsor/Overlap_Apex_108/findclas/Overlap_Apex_108 in May last year for £300 including vat.  It's 10'x6' and it does the job for me.

Nice big row of windows for seeing by and starting off seedlings and you can position these wherever you like on either of the 2 sidewalls, so if you wanted them all along the front like in the pic, or 2 on one side and 2 on the other you can.

Deffinately think long and hard about what you need to use your shed for though, because it's a lot of money to spend only to find you got one that's too big or too small!

Failing that, if your woodworking skills are OK I can email some plans to you or to anyone else that is interested.

I've got a yardmaster as well as the wooden one and I think it's great...  just don't let OH lean on the doors in the cardboard as you're assembling the thing!  Mine has a dent in the door from where a misplaced knee buckled it and I have to boot it closed!
