hi all, i have elderberry wine, apple wine and cider to bottle. i have access to a bottling machine and was wondering :idea:  if it was ok to put metal screwcaps on my wines. what do you think :?:

Hi Kev, I use metal screwcaps on my wine, then it saves me buying corks, but it never stays in the bottles long!  But if your wine is still fermenting a bit, it can make the bottles blow up with a screw cap!  Whereas a cork will blow out of the bottle.

Re-used screw cap wine bottles (with a weaker top than standard corked bottles) are generally only used by homebrewers if using slightly larger than standard silicone treated corks.

But if you have a specialized screw capping (lucky you) bottling machine you will not have those problems.

yes im very lucky. the fruit farm i work  on presses and bottles its own juice. sometimes we have faulty bottles that wont fill on the machine and its these bottles i use for homebrew

That sounds like an excellent source of winemaking ingredients!

Do you make apple wine?
