Hole in the egg

Hi Everyone, yesurday one of my chickens laid an egg with a hole in it, and the same today, is everything ok. They having layers pellets on tap and there is a grit pan as well. any help/ideas. forgot to say, I had 3 eggs yesurday and the other 2 where fine, and 2 eggs today and like yesurday the other one was ok.

you either have an egg eater or a magpie or similar getting in the coop.

Was the shell thickness ok on the holed eggs ? I have had a broody hen do the same to thin shelled eggs when she is 'tucking them under'.

Thank you all, the shells seems ok. I hard boiled them and give them back to the hens today. Thinking about it last week I had to remove my hen from the nesting box 2 nights in a row, she has stopped sleeping in the box now, but now the holes in the eggs, maybe your right, she is pecking the eggs. I have put a false egg in the nesting box tonight, they will see it in the morning I hope this will help.

That's a good idea, using a false egg. I first put a false egg in a nest box to encourage a young hen to use the nest box but now I always have one in each box on the premise that it may discourage egg peckers and predators. Fingers crossed, I have never suffered from either. :)
