Title: why has she stopped laying
Post by: Shazzer on October 02, 2007, 11:16
My Maran stated laying about 3 weeks ago giving us an egg every other day for 2 weeks and then nothing for over a week, I know the days are getting shorter and all but didn't think that it would effect them that much.

Is she feeding? Drinking? Defecating? Have you picked her up and examined her? Could she be eggbound? Have you checked her vent? Has anything out of the ordinary happened lately? How are your other hens performing in the egg box?

Please provide more info.

Regards
MJ

Marans lay beautiful eggs but are not the best of layers. You may have had your lot for a while.

scrapping as in fighting?  I havn't seen her doing that to be honest.  she stopped getting on the perch as she's not very steady on her feet, I looked at her vent, it was opening and closing a bit, but couldn't see any sign of any egg stuck or anything.  shes eating and drinking ok.  its the falling over bit that I'm worried about.  I'll find some dandilions, what do you mean by taking her out in the warm, what warm?
