which I can't help but think would make a great punk band name...
but is also a real pain. only managed to enjoy one cob before the bestriped ones ate their fill.

what do other people do to protect sweetcorn??

this lot ate all of ours, plus those of two of our fellow allotmenteers.

Blimey, i have trouble with cabbage whites and slugs, but nothing that big. Your going to need one big can of insect repellent for those. Its bad enough that they eat your stuff, but to do it at that ungodly hour, its just not sporting, is it

never had this problem!  mine are usually eaten before the badgers can get to them.   They'd probably have a thread on their own forum saying that those bloomin humans have eaten the sweetcorn before they could get to it

I had this problem too. We ended up putting chicken wire around poles surrounding the block - copying what other plotholders had done.

We have this problem on our allotment.
I was warned by site warden when I went to pick which plot I wanted, (luxury of being offered choice of 3) that there is a set on the site.
If you want to grow sweetcorn then you have to grow in a fenced off area on your plot.

Did he say what their route was?

Seriously, I notice some gardens stay untouched on our site.

Is it just sweetcorn they go for or do they nick other crops.
Are you looking for an allotment (full or to share) in South East Sheffield. PM me for details.

Badgers are easily dealt with - it's just a combination of timing and armoury

I think I must be on route for badgers as I see paw prints across one of the beds. Not much trouble though, wish they would each the slug though! :)
