Hi .. ive been given a whole load of old laminate flooring
i thought i could make some raised beds out of it
but im not sure how well it will last in the rain
does anyone know anything about this ?
-
I don’t think even the laminate for even bathrooms would hold up to be honest. It’s a lot of work & expensive to fill if it then collapses
-
Laminate floor is usually just a compressed woodchip/cardboard type layer in some glue, stuck to a picture of some wood. As soon as it gets wet it will expand and disintegrate.
-
I'm mainly concerned about formaldehyde and other chemicals leaching into the soil.
-
Not seeing that would hold up well outside for long.
It would get damp very quickly, warp just rot.
-
i think you may be unhappy with the effort you put in making beds for how long they will last as others have said shame he wasnt throwing away decking boards good luck
-
Absolutely not am I floor layer it is mdf which is a know to cause cancer on big building sites they have a spesial room just for cutting it also it will absorb the water and create a bowing effect called cupping before it turns to mush that also goes for the so call water proof stuff

As this thread is a nearly 2 years old and the person who started it has never posted again, I'll lock it
