Title: How to identify seeds!
Post by: rikknikk on March 26, 2010, 09:10
I have just planted some seeds and have labeled all but 1 and they are the ones that have grown!! is there a good website I could look at to try and help me identify them by looking at a picture? I think they might be tomatoes or peppers but I am not sure?

Hi I would think the best place to start would be if you think they are either Tomatoes or Peppers is to google image them both and see if the pictures look anything like what you are trying to identify.  If not perhaps you could put a picture on this site and I am sure someone will be kind enough to tell you what it is, probably not me tho as this is my first year of growing.  Best of luck Mandy.

If you google 'vegetable seedling id' there are a few websites that help :)

Otherwise wait for the 2nd pair of leaves, as pepper leaves are smooth edged and tomato leaves are not.

Pepper leaves are smooth and shiny, and toms are hairy.

tomato seedlings are lobed and very distinctive.  Once you have grown them from seed you will always recognise them.
