does anyone know anything about these they look pretty in the catalouge and i would like to grow some but i cant find out any info like do they go mad and take over etc also they seem quite expensive can you buy seeds all ive seen so far on offer are rooted plants

I have toad lilies, and they can be a bit of a headache. They're late summer - fall bloomers, which the catalogues usually neglect to mention, and they're also shade lovers. Despite supposedly originating from Japan, they're rather tender for wintering here, but I think mid to southern UK should be okay with them. They do need regular watering to grow well and bloom. I usually buy started ones as the seeds are too slow to germinate for me. Potted ones will bloom early in stores, but once in the ground they go back to normal bloom times - fall.

Forgot to mention that toad lilies don't reproduce quickly, in fact, they prefer to stay as one plant and perhaps seed slowly. They're well behaved, and when they bloom they are gorgeous.
