Have you got an airing cupboard?  My gran always uses hers  :D

Other than that not really sure,  hopefully someone else will be more helpful :!:

This is easy, buy a breadmaker   The only problem I have is which type of bread to make.

I set my oven very low so it runs at about 30 C.  Proves a treat  :D

I have a bread maker too but often make other shapes of bread.

Yep, I've put mine in the oven too..And mine is fan assisted...I put it on very low for a abut 10 minutes then turned it off. Cling film over the dough so as to not dry it and it worked just fine.

Goodie, looks like I too am a member of the warm oven club cause that's how I do mine. No where else is warm enough or draft free.

I just stuck mine on top of the toaster this afternoon, and occasionally popped it on for a few seconds. Seemed to do the trick, but don't forget to turn it off or the teatowel will catch fire :)

Oven on 150 degrees for 5 minutes, turn off, put the bread in to rise.  Works perfectly, no worries about dropping it on the way back from the airing cupboard, and you can set your kitchen timer to remind you.

Actually the dough will prove even when cold, as long as it is not freezing -- it just takes a long time so you have to start the day before.

Sourdough tastes better done over a 24 hour period but you do have to be around to knead it.

Cover the top of the bowl with clingfilm or a sheet of clear plastic, and stick it in a sunny windowsill - no good on a cloudy day, but fine if it's like today.  Or try it on top of an old-fashioned TV or monitor (or your PC case if it runs hot).  As a last resort, wait to bake bread until you're cooking something else that warms up the kitchen!  (Actually, I seriously try to do this: even if I have to run the oven for a bit longer to do everything, it makes sense to only have to heat it up once.)

you can prove your dough by giving it 15 second burst in the microwave then letting it stand for 10 mins then zap it again .

Have never heard of this, but I shall give it a go -- thanks Chrissie. Has any one tried making a 'Grant' loaf that doesn't need any kneading and proves in 30 mins? Apparently the dough is kind of runny.

I just cover mine with a carrier bag or a big freezer bag and leave it to take it's time, it will rise overnight in the fridge, I tried it one just because I didn't belive it and was shocked that it did.
